From our origins in 1888, JT is owned, and headquartered in the Channel Islands where we are the largest local operator. Jersey is a particularly hi-tech island with a thriving business and financial services sector that is completely reliant on robust connectivity provided by JT.
Jersey was the first jurisdiction in the world to have 100% full-fibre connectivity to all premises and currently has the second fastest broadband speeds in the world. Our clear purpose is to connect our customers to their sustainable future and this is supported by our strategic priorities to delight our customers, be a great place to work, build a sustainable future and to grow the business.
In January 2020, we worked with the Government of Jersey, Digital Jersey, and the Island’s other telecom operators to increase all fibre broadband connections to a symmetrical 1 Gbit/s at no extra cost. This joint initiative supported our community when an increase in home-working, home-learning and home-isolating became the new norm during COVID-19.
However, JT Group is much more than the incumbent domestic operator; we have and continue to form long-standing partnerships with leading communications businesses to deliver the products and services expected from a full-service, world-class communications provider.
In recent years we have pursued a highly successful strategy of international diversification and have grown significantly, enabling us to reinvest global revenues back into our domestic markets with a large growing proportion of revenues now coming from international operations.
Among other areas, our international growth has included expansion in the areas of Internet of Things (IoT), where JT has been a leading cellular connectivity provider with remote management of devices around the globe, as well as our successful and growing fraud protection and bulk messaging services. JT’s IoT division, which was sold in June 2021. JT’s IoT platform now powers over 10 million SIMs worldwide and our agile and innovative culture means we’re hopeful to drive significant further growth in other growing emerging technology markets in the future.
In Guernsey, we are partnering with Agilisys to support digital transformation of the Islands Government services; delivering an ambitious 10-year programme to transform Guernsey’s digital infrastructure. This project stands to reshape Guernsey's technology sector, creating many opportunities for the Island and their growing international, finance and business communities. Plans are also in place to support the Government of Guernsey’s fibre roll-out project expected to begin during late 2021.Should this now be removed?
We employ over 500 employees, with offices across the Channel Islands and around the world. It is a fast-paced, challenging, and exciting environment; a culture where everybody feels valued and is empowered to support our global customer base.
