JT Sustainability

2020 was the year JT shifted from delivering separate strands of activity on sustainability, to a more robust and formal ambitious 10-year strategy; addressing the increasing environmental pressures and social issues of our time and most notably where JT can really make a difference.

JT Sustainability

JT publicly launched its 10-year Sustainability Strategy in 2021, focusing on two main ambitions centred around People and Planet – reducing our environmental impact and promoting key social priorities that bring our community together. We are committed to the aim of achieving carbon neutrality in our own scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 as well as working alongside our suppliers to halve the impact of our scope 3 supply chain emissions in the same time frame. Since 2020 we have been focused on understanding what the drivers of our emissions are, to target them as part of a structured science based reduction roadmap, as well as continually refining the data collection and methodology to improve our reporting. In 2022, we set near term science based targets and in 2023 we intend to set a science based Net Zero target following a review of the current roadmap as part of our continuous improvement requirements.

JT’s People and Planet ambitions (Planet: Power Consumption & Energy efficiencies; Travel to and at Work; Circular Business Model & People: Community; Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging) include two new areas of focus for 2023: Value Creation and Value Chain. Value Creation has been included to ensure that the Sustainability Strategy is seamlessly incorporated into the Strategy, Values and Vision of the JT Group, recognising that a sustainable business is one that has finanical longevity as well as supporting it’s people and the wider community. The Value Chain pillar has been added to develop a delivery plan to halve our supply chain emissions, as well as identifying opportunities to ensure sustainable development for the people and natural environment involved in how we bring our products to the market for our customers.

We continue to develop and refine our data reporting requirements, as we work towards global best practice framework reporting, with a 2030 carbon neutral target, whilst defining the soonest possible timeline for Net Zero. We recognise that we have a long way to go and a number of challenges to address, but we are passionate about the journey and supporting the shared goals for our Islands.
