Frequently Asked Questions & Information that’s good to know!
What do you get when you buy a PAYG SIM for the first time?
If you’ve just bought a new Pay As You Go SIM pack from one of our shops, it’ll come pre-loaded with 5GB of local mobile data, 50 texts, and 50 minutes of call to Channel Islands mobile numbers. Calls to local landlines are not included in the starter pack, but our bundles all include unlimited calls to local landlines and mobiles, so our advice is to top-up with a bundle through your My JT app if you want to call local landlines.
How much does it cost out-of-bundle?
These are the standard charges that apply when you don’t have an active bundle, or if what you’re doing - like calling certain numbers or using extra data - isn’t included in a bundle that’s currently active.

I’ve topped up the wrong thing, could I have a refund?
No, Pay As You Go is a non-refundable service. When topping up, please check that what you’ve chosen is what you need. Remember, topping up with credit isn’t buying a bundle. If you top-up with monetary credit only and then use data (apps, browsing and WhatsApp calls etc), your credit will be used to do this and it’s likely to be used up quickly. You get the best value from topping up with a bundle and then buying extra credit if you’re going to need to call UK or International numbers.
Can I set up an automatic top-up?
We don’t offer automatic top-ups, and that’s on purpose. We want you to stay in control of your spending, so you can choose when to top up and by how much. We know that usage can vary from month to month, and financial flexibility can play a part too, plus, with our My JT app its really easy to top-up quickly and securely through Google and Apple Pay, or by debit/credit card where you can save your details on your account, making it even quicker to top-up, anytime.
How often do I need to top-up?
You’ll need to top-up at least once every 7 months, with a bundle or credit, to prevent losing any credit and the SIM card expiring completely. If the SIM card expires, the service will not work and your number, plus any monetary credit balance, cannot be retrieved.
My PAYG isn’t working, what should I do?
There are a few things to check first:
1) Have you topped up in the last 7 months?
2) Use Wi-Fi to open your My JT app and check your balance. (Top-Up if you have no bundle active or no credit)
3) Turn your phone off and on again.
If you’ve checked all of these and your service still isn’t working, please report a problem through your My JT app by opening the Chat & Service Hub.
Can I use my Pay As You Go for roaming?
The standard bundles are for use across the Channel Islands. If you’re wanting to use your mobile further afield, you can choose one of our Roaming bundles that will give you data for use when in UK and Europe. Our Pay As You Go bundles for roaming don’t currently include an allowance for calls or texts when you’re outside the Channel Islands.
Our Pay Monthly Mobile Plans do include minutes, texts and data for when you’re roaming in UK, Europe and US, with amazing value bolt-ons available for the rest of the world Zone 1 countries too, so if this sounds like it would suit you more, pop in and speak to one of our team about getting a JT Pay Monthly mobile plan, or build and order your new plan online
here.
Can I top-up multiple bundles in the same 30-day period?
Yes, you can. For those of you wondering, ‘why would I do that?’, you might top up the £10 5GB bundle which will be active for 30 days, but this month you unexpectedly find you need to use a little more data than usual… so topping up again another £10 for an extra 5GB on Day 23 of the original bundle helps to give you a boost and keep you connected. The second top-up has its own 30-day validity period so it will continue when the 30-days from the first top-up you made ends.
What happens if I run out of credit or my bundle expires?
You’ll still receive calls and texts, but you’ll need to top up with a bundle to make calls, send texts or use data.
Can I switch my UK number to a JT Pay As You Go?
No. If you’re trying to move a UK number to or from Jersey or Guernsey (or vice versa), that isn’t possible because the UK and Channel Island numbering and regulations differ. You’ll need a new Channel Islands number, which we can help you set up! Check out the section about switching to JT above.
I’m using my PAYG for the first time and I can’t call local landline numbers, why?
When you first buy your JT Pay As You Go SIM card from one of our shops, it comes pre-loaded with 50 call minutes to local mobiles, but not local landlines. All our 30-day bundles include unlimited calls to local mobiles and landlines, so just top-up with a bundle to be able to call locally as much as you want!
How do I report a problem with my PAYG?
My JT. Log into the app, open the Chat & Service Hub and you’ll see a menu for getting the help and support you need.
