JT’s Real-Time Scam Detection Adopted by UK High Street Bank Earns Industry Award

A real-time scam detection system developed by JT has been recognised with the Credit Award for Excellence in Fraud Prevention, following its deployment by Barclays through FICO’s platform.

The award-winning solution, Scam Signal, uses live telephony intelligence to detect and disrupt social engineering scams as they happen. Integrated into FICO® Customer Communication Services and adopted by Barclays, the technology identified nine potential scam victims on its first day and is forecast to reduce card fraud losses by 6%.

This marks the first time real-time mobile intelligence data has been embedded within a UK high street bank’s fraud decisioning systems. Scam Signal connects directly to JT’s network via API, enabling FICO’s platform to trigger immediate interventions when high-risk calls are detected — helping banks act before a scam is completed.

Clare Messenger, Head of Mobile Intelligence at JT, said: “This award highlights the growing role of mobile intelligence in financial crime prevention. Scam Signal was designed to give banks a new layer of insight into scam activity. Seeing it delivers results at scale, and being recognised by the industry, is a significant milestone for JT.”

Nicola Winter, Director of Plastic Fraud at Barclays, added: “Barclays recognises how impactful this type of fraud is to our customers and have supplemented our existing fraud defences with the latest technology when we suspect customers are being socially engineered. We will then intervene to ‘break the spell’ the fraudster casts. Whilst fraudsters target all segments of society, it can be particularly harmful for vulnerable customers.”

Nikhil Behl, President, Software at FICO, said: “We are immensely proud of this award and our work with JT and Barclays. Barclays wed customer commitment with innovation, and our partnership with them is producing fantastic results. In the fight against fraud and scams, the criminals are using the most advanced technology — banks must do the same to keep their customers safe.”

JT continues to invest in mobile intelligence solutions that support fraud prevention and digital trust. Scam Signal is the latest example of how telecoms data can be used to protect consumers and support financial institutions in tackling increasingly sophisticated scams

Crimestoppers Guernsey Launch 2025 Activity Challenge with Support from JT Community Giving

JT Community Giving is once again delighted to support the Crimestoppers Activity Challenge. This initiative invites people to take part in a variety of fun challenges which range from walking or swimming one km to cycling 55 km. It’s free to join and encourages the community to come together and support each other, whilst also while raising awareness of the important work of Crimestoppers locally in keeping our Island safe.

This year’s challenge runs throughout July 2025, with every participant automatically entered into a prize draw to win either £555 or £111 in cash. These amounts were chosen as they link directly to the Crimestoppers phone number, 0800 555 111 which is encrypted so that all callers are 100% anonymous.

Participants can choose from three challenge levels—bronze, silver, or gold—with activities designed to promote healthy movement and community engagement throughout the month. Reflecting on the success of the 2024 challenge, last year’s winners, Tanya Thoumine, who took home the top prize and Marina Burr, the second-place winner, are encouraging even more people to get involved in 2025.

Tanya Thoumine said: ‘Thanks to JT and Crimestoppers, I was the lucky winner last year! The challenge motivated me to take on running, swimming, and cycling activities. It’s accessible to everyone due to the various distance options, and entry was straightforward. I encourage everyone to get involved this year.’

Marina Burr added: ‘I joined last year’s challenge for a summer fitness goal and to support a local initiative. I loved that even a simple activity like walking 1k qualifies for the ‘bronze’ level, making it inclusive for all. This year, I’m aiming for the 11k challenge by biking or walking. Plus, it’s free, so there’s no reason not to join!’

Mike Smith, Chairman of Crimestoppers, is looking forward for the challenge’s return. ‘We’re calling on even more participants this year, including those already taking on other charity challenges, like 30 Bays in 30 Days. Winning could help boost their fundraising efforts or allow them to treat themselves to something once the challenge is over. We’re incredibly grateful to JT for supporting this initiative for a second year running. Their contribution allows us to offer these fantastic cash prizes.’

The charity will be encouraging participants to share photos of their activities on Facebook to inspire others to set their own goal.

Pip Carpenter, Head of Consumer Markets and Community Partnerships, shared: “We’re pleased to continue our long-standing partnership with Crimestoppers through this inspiring initiative. Whether it’s online or in our neighbourhoods, crime can be significantly reduced when people are more informed and engaged. This challenge is a great way to bring the community together, promote healthier lifestyles, and raise awareness of how we can all play a part in keeping Guernsey safe.”
