Silent Authentication+ unveiled: Redefining Security and Elevating User Experience

Jersey Telecom (JT Group) in collaboration with anti-fraud specialist Honey Badger, proudly unveils Silent Authentication+, a groundbreaking passwordless technology, set to redefine how individuals access password-protected services, offering a swift, seamless and secure authentication experience.

Silent Authentication+ is the result of a strategic collaboration between JT and Honey Badger. This joint venture harnesses the same cryptographic technology employed by mobile networks to authenticate calls and data sessions.

Tom Noel, Chief Product Officer at JT said: “The launch of Silent Authentication+ represents a fundamental shift in how we approach customer authentication. Its speed, security and simplicity will change our interaction with password-protected services. Despite big technological advances and greater levels of awareness, passwords, systems access and user data are still susceptible to social engineering and fraud. Silent Authentication+ is completely immune to such measures.’’

As service providers seek that all-important competitive advantage, this technology provides the opportunity to easily integrate seamless authentication into their customer journeys without the security risks, deployment costs and high friction of traditional SMS based authentication.

“Silent Authentication+ delivers all our objectives in developing a frictionless, more secure way to authenticate users. Online fraud and data security remain significant challenges, and our method removes authentication as a barrier to good customer experience while enhancing security,” says Matt Salisbury, CEO of Honey Badger.

Up to 20 times faster than OTP, Silent Authentication+ comes with additional security measures including in-built fraud detection, making it a turnkey solution for user logins, payment authentications and account recovery.

This new product seamlessly integrates into existing mobile and web applications through a user-friendly API, offering endless possibilities for user logins, payment authentications and more.

With Silent Authentication+, users can say goodbye to passwords, reducing susceptibility to phishing and other fraudulent practices. The technology facilitates communication between the device and the network without the need for third-party apps, ensuring a super-fast, frictionless authentication process.

iPad gift enhances rehab communication and care

The team at Le Marchant Ward, Guernsey’s specialist rehabilitation unit will be able to record patients’ unique care needs thanks to a technology donation from JT’s Community Giving Scheme.

JT has donated four iPads to the ward, responding to a request from nurses for tech solutions to improve patient care communication.

Le Marchant is Guernsey’s specialist assessment and rehabilitation ward providing 24-hour care to patients following a stroke, Parkinson’s disease, falls or post-orthopaedic and general surgery.

Rehabilitation involves different therapies to help patients relearn the movements and skills lost after a serious medical condition such as a stroke.

Olwen Bain-Brehaut, Ward Sister, Le Marchant Ward at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital explains; ‘Each patient will have very different needs, depending on the part of the brain or body affected; therapy involves different nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapist and our dietician, and it evolves as patients improve,’

‘Team members will now be able to assign an iPad to a patient, and record exercises, progress and patient preferences using the digital tools. This means each patient’s personalise care plan can be easily communicated between staff.

‘We are looking forward to seeing how this will improve communication regarding patient care, which is critical to help patients regain independence and quality of life. We are very grateful to the JT Community Giving scheme for this donation.’

The Community Giving scheme is open to all registered charities, schools, and community groups across the Channel Islands that meet at least one of four criteria: community support, digital inclusivity, raising awareness of mental and physical health and wellbeing, and environmental improvement.

JT – First in Channel Islands to Switch on Renewable Energy

JT has become the first business in the Channel Islands to transition to renewable energy by entering into a commercial supply agreement with Guernsey Electricity. This means that 100% of the company’s electricity consumption in Guernsey, being 25% of the telco’s total Channel Island consumption, is supported by ‘Guarantees of Origin (GoO’s).

GoO’s are recognised in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Scope 2 guidance and enable companies without access to renewable energy infrastructure to claim market-based renewable energy usage. A GoO certifies that an amount of energy received was replaced by a renewable equivalent

JT’s electricity consumption includes powering its Data Centres, Fixed and Mobile networks, and its various buildings in the Bailiwick, including the St Peter Port shop.

The firm has committed to be neutral in its scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 2030, and utilising renewable GoOs is just one pillar of its broader sustainability strategy to ultimately reduce emissions through reduced energy consumption and investment in energy-efficient technologies.

Gill Knights, JT Head of Sustainability and JT Group Counsel, has led the firm’s switch to renewable energy. She commented: “Since publishing our sustainability strategy in 2021, we have been focused on understanding the drivers of our emissions so we can target them as part of a structured, science-based reduction roadmap.

“The switch to 100% renewable energy in Guernsey is a tangible step towards our 2023 targets. We recognise that we have a long way to go and many challenges to overcome, but we are passionate about our journey to net zero and are excited to lead the way in the Channel Islands.

“We hope that our progress will inspire other companies to explore ways to drive sustainability and address their environmental impact.”

Game-changing tech

In the latest edition of Business Brief, JT’s CEO, Daragh McDermott, talks about JT’s recent signing of a contract with Ericsson to install the next generation networks that will provide mobile and fixed line services, setting JT’s network strategy in place for decades. As well as offering improved speeds and security, the network modernisation will bring improvements to voice quality on mobile calls, more bandwidth for mobile users and improved coverage. The program will also enable future 5G and technology ambitions in the Channel Islands.

Tech talent finds a welcome home at JT

Riley Aslett, began as an intern with JT having signed up to Digital Greenhouse’s intern programme. After an impressive six-weeks Riley was awarded a JT Bursary by her JT mentors, and she has been a key team member ever since. Committed and interested young people like Riley represent the future of digital technology and we are privileged to have the opportunity to share our knowledge with her and watch how it has helped with her studies and her chosen career path.

Artistic creativity continues to flow with JT donation

Liberate Art Club, a thriving creative initiative that aims to combat isolation and loneliness in the community, is the latest Guernsey charity to benefit from JT’s Community Giving Scheme.

Liberate will use the donation to purchase resources to make its art sessions as accessible and inclusive as possible as it fosters creativity and supports personal growth among its diverse and growing membership.

Participants, ranging from 18 to 82 years of age, come from various walks of life. The club’s mission is to ensure that no barriers stand in the way of artistic expression and creative camaraderie.

‘We offer these creative activities free of charge as we understand the financial challenges many of our attendees face due to factors like disability or single-parent status, so we rely on the generosity of local companies like JT, said Joni Nettleship, Liberate Art Club Co-Founder.

‘This donation will fund items like large knitting needles, tabletop easels, magnifying glasses and noise cancelling headphones which will help to make the sessions accessible and even more inclusive.’

The sessions cover various creative techniques, from painting, knitting, and drawing to watercolour painting, printing, and weaving. With a commitment to sustainability, Liberate Art Club implements eco-friendly practices by reusing and recycling materials, including drawing on cardboard and creating collages and wreaths from scrap papers, charity shop fabrics, and donated items.

JT Community Giving aims to help local projects and initiatives by offering them the opportunity to apply for funding, devices, subscriptions, technical support, or even hands-on help from JT’s many willing volunteers.

The art classes bring different people together from across the community for mutual support and it’s clear from how the class has grown that people enjoy the opportunity to express themselves through art.
