JT Cobo Bay Balcony Gigs

Balcony gigs boast legendary line up for 2019

Summer might still feel like it’s a few months away, but the list of acts announced for this year’s Cobo Bay Balcony Gigs has brought the sunshine a bit closer and given us all something to look forward to.

Islanders will be able to enjoy another bumper series of free family-friendly live music events this year with acts including tributes to global superstar Ed Sheeran, the iconic David Bowie and rock legends AC/DC in this year’s line-up.

The free gigs from the Cobo Bay Hotel first floor balcony have been providing live entertainment for some 30 years now and have become synonymous with summer in Guernsey. This year’s series begins on Sunday 5 May with a Tina Turner Tribute and the last act will take to the balcony on Sunday 25 August. As in previous years, the events will also raise money for the Guernsey Cheshire Homes and the GSPCA, JT’s chosen charity for 2019.

JT’s Deputy Managing Director in Guernsey, Tamara O’Brien, said: “It wouldn’t be summer without the balcony gigs. This is the eighth year that we have supported these popular community events. As always, the line-up of tribute acts is fantastic and we’re pleased to be helping these events continue and bring top quality, live music for everyone to enjoy for free. In the lead up to the first gig we will have competitions and news on our @JTsocial Facebook page where everyone can catch up with the latest gig gossip and this year we will be livestreaming the event using JT’s exclusive beach cam and drone footage.

We’ll also have our JT team on hand during each of the events sharing exclusive offers and providing biodegradable and re-usable giveaways. As always, given the beautiful location that these events take place in, we strongly encourage islanders attending to collect and take home their rubbish and leave Cobo Bay litter free.”

David Nussbaumer, organiser of The Cobo Bay Balcony Gigs, said: “Our thanks go to JT for their on-going support, which has helped us to secure some of the best tribute acts on the scene. It promises to be another great summer of music.”

JT Cisco accreditation

JT extends its accreditation with global tech giant Cisco

JT’s Business teams across the Channel Islands and London have boosted their already strong relationship with world technology giant Cisco by achieving a further premier accreditation; ‘Advanced Enterprise Networks Architecture Specialisation’ reflecting their growing depth of skills and knowledge.

This makes JT the first Channel Island-based provider to have gained two full Cisco architectures enabling JT to expand the range of Cisco products within their portfolio. These products include JT’s newly launched ‘next generation’ firewall which allows JT’s customers to actively monitor systems and, if needed, lockdown and isolate any devices which have been compromised with an advanced managed service approach.

By achieving this Advanced Enterprise Networks Architecture Specialisation, JT’s team has demonstrated that they have met the stringent training standards required and have further secured the team’s expertise in supply, design and deployment of complex Cisco solutions.

Katie Corbett, Director of CI Enterprise & Business Services at JT said: “Cisco is the largest networking company in the world and our 20-year partnership with them helps us to deliver the very best solutions for our global customer base. We pride ourselves on having within our dedicated team some of the finest Cisco experts in the islands, who between them have now clocked up some 60 hours of intensive training, often in their own time. So, we are delighted to add this second architecture specialisation to our portfolio further expanding what we offer to our customers in the Channel Islands and around the world.

“This achievement is testament to their hard work putting in a huge amount of time and effort to reach this status. As one of the Channel Islands largest digital employers we are committed to investing in our teams and encouraging them to take part in training like this, so that they can maintain the standards that our customers need and further their own professional development.”

Digital Ace 2019

JT help parents get a ‘Haandle’ on e-safety at Digital ACE

JT’s retail team will be on a stand at this year’s Digital ACE event organised by Digital Greenhouse on Saturday 2 February between midday and 5 pm at Beau Sejour. This popular annual event takes place ahead of National Safer Internet Day attracting high numbers of visitors keen to know more about the latest technology.

The exponential growth of the internet means our children and young adults are spending more time than ever online, both at home and at school for development and play. This explosion of use brings with it a need to help educate parents and young people to understand the risks they could face online. The JT team are ready to help giving easy to understand practical advice and tips on how to stay safe online.

They will also be demonstrating Haandle, an innovative parental control device for e-safety. The latest figures released by Ofcom show that more than a third of 12 to 15-year-olds find it difficult to moderate their screen time and Haandle can help families manage online activity. The device, which is exclusively available at JT, allows parents to set limits and manage their children’s internet access by setting times and parameters on devices their children have access to. This works across mobile data and Wi-Fi networks in and outside the home, so it can be a useful tool for parents to help encourage healthy usage.

The JT team will also give practical guidance on how to configure devices. And to keep the children entertained while we help answer questions, the stand has the latest Nintendo switch console available to trial and some great giveaways, including a chance to win a brand-new Nintendo Console.

Tamara O’Brien, JT’s Head of Customer Experience said: “It’s great to support the Digital ACE event again this year and to have the chance to provide islanders with advice, tools and safety tips as well as offering some fun, guidance and demonstrations at the event. This is such a valuable event for islanders to find out more about the power of technology we all now rely on, but also how to use it safely. We are looking forward to welcoming people and will be happy to help with any questions that they may have.”

For anyone who can’t get to Digital ACE, JT’s High Street shop team are always happy to see people in-store and help with useful information and friendly advice on the latest range of technology. They can also help customers with enabling Internet routers to block certain sites or seeing first-hand the devices we have available to help them stay in control online.

JT Head of Culture and Values

JT Teams pull together to raise money for charities in their communities

In 2018 JT teams raised £21,831 for their chosen charities through a combination of group events and individual challenges across all JT’s locations.

In Jersey the team worked with Littlefeet Environmental and Jersey Marine Conservation while the Guernsey team supported the Marine Biology Section of the Société Guernesiaise. The money raised by the teams will directly benefit local environmental causes, providing much needed funds to support valuable work in the communities that JT is a part of.

Spurred on by the JSPCA’s plea for help to save the Jersey Animal Shelter, the JT team in Jersey have decided to put their full support behind the charity in 2019. While in Guernsey the JT team will focus on supporting the great work of the much-loved local animal charity, the GSPCA.

Christophe Chateau, JT Group Head of Culture and Staff Engagement, said: “Animals play an important role in many people’s lives, as valued companions for some and for many others they are a lifeline. Right now, help is needed to ensure that the people that look after the animals and pets in our community have what they need to continue to provide islanders with a vital service.

“We are committed to supporting the JSPCA’s efforts to help fund the shelter in the same enthusiastic way that we have supported local charities and initiatives for decades. For us, it’s a great way to bring people together, have fun, raise money and change something in our community that needs our help.

“We are in close contact with the JSPCA to ensure that volunteering and fundraising efforts meet the charity’s most immediate needs, working out a programme of events for JT’s people to get involved in. We have had some great successes with charity-focused events in the past, they are enormously popular and attract a lot of participation from the wider community. We hope to be just as successful this year.”

More information about the company’s work in the community is available on the charity and community pages of the JT website.

About JT

Jersey Landline issue

We would like to apologise once again to all customers who were affected by service problems with the Jersey Landline issue on 27th December and then on 30 December. Thank you for your patience and support. The network is normally extremely robust, but we fully understand that is cold comfort when there is a problem.

The two incidents were unrelated technical issues. We will now undertake a full investigation to isolate the exact root cause of each one so that we can make sure it isn’t repeated. Needless, to say we will be monitoring the network very closely indeed over the coming days.

Given the timing over the holiday period, the fact we had two problems close together, and that they collectively affected the majority of our customers in some way, we will be offering compensation in line with our customer promise. Compensation will be seen in our customer’s January bills. This will take the form of a week’s free landline rental . And for broadband customers, a waiver on charges for data use in excess of broadband bundles in January.

We take our responsibility as one of Jersey’s core infrastructure providers very seriously indeed. We would like to reassure our customers that problems are rare. But if something happens we have careful plans in place to deal with it as quickly as possible. We always aim to get back to normal as soon as we can. Part of our protocol includes notifying the emergency services as the Health and Social Services community alarms used by some customers are affected by loss of landline service. We have been working pro-actively with all Emergency Services to continually improve the services.

JT Supports JSPCA

The JSPCA to get a helping hand from team JT in 2019

Following our public appeal for support, JT has chosen the JSPCA as its charity of the year in 2019. JT will be encouraging staff to support the charity with events. As well as corporate and personal fund-raising.

Earlier this year we took steps to engage the public to support us. Thus, ensuring that both the charity and Animals’ Shelter would be able to continue providing services for the Jersey community for many years to come.

Kevin Keen, the JSPCA’s volunteer Chief Executive Officer said: “To end the year with positive news is great for everyone involved. We are really pleased that our campaign has resulted in JT choosing us as the beneficiary of their annual fund-raising. Their support will help raise awareness of the services we provide and generate funds.”

A Popular Choice

Christophe Chateau, JT Group Head of Culture and Staff Engagement, said: “The JSPCA were an obvious and popular choice for us as our 2019 charity of the year. So many of us will have had contact with the Animals’ Shelter over the years. We know just how vital their services are for the Island’s sick, injured or homeless and lost pets. Without their presence, a much-needed service would disappear from our community. We know that our people at JT will get behind the efforts of the charity t. Thus, we hope to help fund the shelter in the same enthusiastic way that they have thrown their support behind many local charities and initiatives by fundraising and volunteering for decades. We are very hands-on and passionate about our community.

“As a locally-owned company, we’d also love to see other Jersey companies take up the opportunity to choose the JSPCA as their focus for fund-raising. Especially, in 2019  but also beyond. Therefore, we can continue to have a Shelter and service to be proud of.”

As well as encouraging corporate sponsorship and funding the charity has reached out directly to Islanders. This is in the hope of supporting them through ongoing donations and fundraising. For more information about fundraising for the JSPCA go to our Support Us page.
